A stage production by Pravesh Kumar

After the success of The Deranged Marriage, Rifco Arts return with There’s Something About Simmy, a heart-warming comedy drama, with a hint of Bollywood, incorporating some Punjabi (with English sur-titles).

This is a story that exploresfamily, friendship and fate - with a hint of Bollywood.

The birth charts are a perfect match. Simmy, the imported bride, will bring good fortune (and grandsons) to her unlucky In-laws. But Raj, the wayward groom has run away before marriage could reform him. Until he returns, Simmy is locked in the house, by her community obsessed mother-in-law, and spend her time keeping the diabetic granddad away from the Jalelbis.

All is unwell until Harry, the other son, arrives home for the summer hols. Even though Harry cannot speak Punjabi and Simmy has difficulty with English, a friendship begins to form which grabs the attention of the community. The net curtains twitch, while the outrageous Aunties focus their binoculars on the Bedi household.

Why are the new couple not coming for traditional Indian dinner? Is Eid on the same day as Diwali? Has anyone seen that hooligan Raj?!

'Proof that British Indian Theatre, with its readiness to tour, has become an enriching staple of live performance reaching out to all sections of the community.' - The Stage
